Curriculum

Lab rotations

Students entering the program with a BSc degree (i.e. without a MSc degree or equivalent) participate in mandatory lab rotations prior to the uptake of thesis work. For students entering the program with a MSc degree or equivalent, optional lab rotations might be encouraged on an individual basis.

Predoc Course

In the first year of thesis work, students participate in a mandatory 4-week full-time course taught by faculty members of the IMPRS-CellDevoSys and the DIGS-BB. The CellDevo program, the RegMed program and the NanoBio program each offers a program-specific practical course including lectures, practicals, and tutorials. The first three weeks of the course are reserved for students being enrolled in the particular program, whereas the fourth weeks specifically addresses the needs of students participating in the other programs.

Advanced courses and workshops

A variety of advanced courses and workshops (2-3 days) are offered for PhD students in the second and third year of doctoral thesis work. PhD students may elect courses according to individual needs, or as recommended by the TAC.

Journal Clubs

The training includes active participation in journal clubs offered for students of the International PhD Program. Subjects covered in the journal clubs are for example biophysics, chromatin, RNA, molecular medicine, cell and developmental biology, membranes and organelles.

Method Seminars

Monthly method seminars are designed to cover methods, which students will encounter during their thesis work and to provide expert knowledge about possible applications, limitations, pitfalls, and troubleshooting.

Research Seminars

International renowned scientists are invited to Dresden to present their scientific work in the MPI-CBG Thursday Seminar and the corresponding seminars at TUD. PhD students attend research seminars on a regular basis. Please follow the links to learn more about the invited speakers.
